Parisian eyewear as sculpture: architectural, expressive, unmistakably French.

Heritage

A house built on discipline, not trend.

Designer laminating colored acetate sheets in a Paris atelier

Alain Mikli established his house in 1978 on the conviction that eyewear was not an accessory but a discipline of its own, one that deserved the same seriousness as haute couture. From a small studio in Paris he began treating the frame as an object of design.

Mikli became a fixture of Parisian design culture and of the runway, including a long collaboration with Philippe Starck. The house remains defined by architectural silhouettes, laminated acetates, and a French intellect that treats every temple as a study in line and light.

“A frame is not decoration. It is the architecture of the face, an idea you carry with you all day.”

Who Alain Mikli suits

  • Creative professionals, architects and designers who read the frame as an object.
  • Angular face shapes and cooler palettes, which the faceted silhouettes and laminated colorways suit particularly well.

Fit notes

Architectural frames are less forgiving than round ones, so placement matters. We check that the browline sits just under your natural brow and that the rim does not cut across the pupil, because a sculpted shape shows a poor fit immediately. Laminated acetate adjusts well with heat, and we set bridge and temple by hand so a bolder frame still sits level and stays there.

Lens notes

Strong shapes look best with thin edges, so high index material is usually worth it here, particularly in stronger prescriptions. An anti reflective coating keeps the lens from competing with the frame. If you are in a deeper or wrapped silhouette, we will talk through how that affects progressive corridor width before ordering.
